Skills Platform Explainer Video
In 2022, Cloud Academy needed a new platform explainer video in preparation for the biggest cloud tech industry event of the year, Re:Invent.
The marketing team reached out to ask if my team could assist. Although we were already at full capacity, we chose to take on the project to support the company and capitalize on a chance for team-building and intensive collaboration. I led the art direction and project management, while the instructional designers wrote the script, the designers developed the assets, and the animators divided the scenes to animate.
This was a 6-week project crammed into 2.5 weeks with no budget.
Designing the Visuals
I created a styleframe addressing the enterprise IT “skills gap.” The concept showed a small team using Cloud Academy, personified as a droid, to help reach business objectives. Though well received, marketing’s focus on retention and expansions led us to pivot to a more corporate tone, targeting teams over individuals. I repurposed existing artwork, rigs, and settings, collaborating with the team to build a unified video vision.
The Outcome
We got it across the line in time, marketing and Sr Leadership was quite pleased and it got our team some excellent visibility across the org. It led to better collaboration across other teams including additional marketing and Product-related projects.
