Python Flow Control - Art Direction and Animation
In 2022, Cloud Academy planned to release over 20 Python programming courses within three months. This was their first large-scale programming course launch.
Consequently, it became an all-hands-on-deck effort involving the full team of eight, my manager, and more than 10 contractors. It also presented an opportunity to build a design system and templates from scratch. Below is an excerpt from one of the videos, followed by an overview of the process I followed to ensure this project was a success.
Developing a Design System
Developing the look required extensive research into current industry trends and identifying opportunities to innovate. I produced multiple moodboards and styleframes featuring high-tech visuals; however, they lacked a certain warmth and relatability. To address this, I incorporated select elements I found appealing but shifted the focus toward crafting a narrative centered on a developer's journey—from novice to seasoned programmer. After defining both the visual style and storytelling approach, I developed a comprehensive design system comprising visual building blocks, characters, and templates to maintain consistency throughout the series.

The Outcome
The videos have been effectively utilized in sales strategy meetings aimed at retaining larger enterprise clients interested in bespoke content.
